This contemporary coastal residence is currently entering the design phase, with a vision to create a refined family home that embraces its natural setting and captures expansive water views. The project will balance timeless architecture, carefully crafted interiors and outdoor living spaces to deliver a home that responds to climate, landscape and the client's lifestyle, while celebrating the unique character of its coastal environment.

Every successful architectural project begins with understanding the site. This week marks the completion of the first milestone for Banksia Edge, with the existing site survey fully translated into a coordinated Archicad Building Information Model (BIM). Using the survey information, we have developed an accurate three-dimensional model of the existing residence, surrounding topography, site levels and immediate context. This coordinated BIM model will support every stage of the project, from concept design through Development Application (DA), Construction Certificate (CC) documentation and construction. Creating an accurate existing conditions model is a critical step in our design process. It allows us to understand how the home currently performs, analyse circulation, evaluate natural light, study view corridors and better understand the relationship between the building, landscape and surrounding bushland. By establishing this digital foundation early, future design decisions can be explored with confidence before construction begins. The Archicad model also improves coordination with structural, hydraulic and other consultants, ensuring everyone works from the same information while reducing errors throughout design and documentation. With the existing conditions now complete, the project moves into the Existing Design stage. Over the coming weeks we will assess the existing home, identify opportunities for improvement and begin exploring design strategies that strengthen indoor-outdoor living, maximise natural light and better respond to the steep coastal setting of Whale Beach. Banksia Edge is envisioned as a contemporary coastal residence that celebrates its unique location while creating functional, flexible and timeless living spaces. This milestone establishes the foundation for every design decision that follows, and we look forward to sharing the project's evolution as concept design begins.
