Remediation · Cliff-edge accessibility upgrade

A cliff-edge home at Seaforth that needed structural remediation and a full accessibility upgrade. We reinforced the structure, resolved drainage across difficult topography, introduced ambulant access throughout and reconfigured the interior — turning a failing house into a safe, fully accessible family home.

## The engineering behind the design

This home sits along the edge of a cliff and was in need of structural remediation and accessibility upgrades.

## The plan

We reinforced the structure, managed drainage across difficult topography, and introduced ambulant access features throughout. Internal spaces were reconfigured for flow and functionality, resulting in a safe, stylish, and fully accessible family home.

## Building in Seaforth

Northern Beaches Council was formed in 2016 from the merger of Manly, Pittwater and Warringah councils, and the legacy LEPs still apply. Seaforth falls under Warringah LEP 2011 — generally the quickest of the three to assess, with more conventional residential controls on height, setbacks, FSR and tree retention than the Pittwater side of the peninsula.

Seaforth blocks fall towards Middle Harbour, on a mix of sandstone and shale and clay. That makes footings and retaining the real structural work, and with harbour views on every side, council looks closely at overshadowing and view loss for the neighbours.
